How Dental Sealants Are Applied
The entire sealant application takes only a few minutes per tooth — no drilling, no injections, no discomfort. Here's exactly what happens.
No drilling. No anaesthesia. No pain. Patients can eat and drink normally immediately after the appointment. Sealants can often be applied at the same visit as a routine cleaning — maximizing your time.
- Clean the Tooth — the tooth to be sealed is thoroughly cleaned to remove any plaque or food debris. The surface is then dried with air to prepare for the bonding process.
- Etch the Surface — a mild acidic gel (etching solution) is applied briefly to the chewing surface. This slightly roughens the enamel so the sealant bonds firmly and durably to the tooth.
- Apply the Sealant — the tooth is rinsed and dried again, then the liquid sealant material is carefully painted onto the grooves and pits of the chewing surface, flowing into all the tiny crevices.
